- I'm an existing customer with a Basic or Premier
account. What do I need to do to be able to use national access?
- I did not download/install the NetGate Connection
application. What do I need to change (manually) to use national
access?
- If you downloaded and installed the NetGate
Connection application the only change that is required
to allow you to use national access is one change to your mail
configuration. National access requires that you use "authenticated
SMTP" to send mail. Setting this option is going to vary from
one mail client to another. Here are the instructions for setting
up Outlook Express to use authenticated SMTP:
Inbound mail server (pop server): pop.netgate.net
Outbound mail server (SMTP server): smtp.netgate.net
Mail user name: user
1. Launch Outlook Express
2.
Open the Tools menu
3. Select the "Accounts" menu item.
4. Select the "pop.netgate.net" mail server and click on the "Properties" button.
5. Click on the "Servers" tab.
6. Select the "My server requires
authentication" checkbox.
- You will need to change your mail and news
configuration. See the above answer (1) for information on how
to reconfigure mail. If you utilize Usenet news you will also
need to modify your news server settings. These options
are going to vary from one news client to another. Here are the
instructions for setting
up Outlook Express to use the new news server:
Server name: usenet.netgate.net
Account name : user@usenet.netgate.net
Password: same as you use for Internet access and mail
1. Launch Outlook Express
2.
Open the Tools menu
3. Select the "Accounts" menu item
4. Select your current
news account and click on properties
5. Click on the "Servers" tab
6. Enter the Server name, Account name, and password information
Note: By following these instructions
you will not have to subscribe to all your groups again or re-read
old messages again.
